Who am I?
My name is Alex, I’m 20 and I’m from Shropshire in the UK. I study history and French at Cambridge, which means I’ll be spending this year in Paris, first as a student at the École normale supérieure (ENS) and then as an intern for Link Prod (a documentary production company). In my spare time, I enjoy playing guitar, going on walks and writing silly articles like the ones you’ll find on this blog.
What to expect from this blog
Here, I’ll be sharing all my year abroad adventures, whether they be embarrassing, chaotic or (in much rarer cases) make me look really cool. I’ll discuss the cultural differences between France and the UK, the beautifully strange environment that is the ENS and the complexities of navigating Parisian life. This blog will be especially useful if you plan to go on a year abroad and wish to avoid the mistakes I make (or if you know me and can't be bothered to text to find out how I’m doing).
Whether you're deliberating over studying languages, a fanatic for French culture or want to relive your own travels, this blog might just be for you. There’ll be diary entries, advice columns, book reviews, travel guides and, frankly, anything else I feel like.
Hopefully, if you're on your year abroad, you’ll find some of this relatable and, if you're not, you’ll get a taste of what the experience is really like.
And, if you're French, just know I mean you no harm!
